How This Southern Girl Made Her Drink Koozie!

***Edited to add***

DIY Day @ ASPTL

You have seen those sassy drink koozies in your local boutique, you want one, but dropping nearly $20 is just a little steep. I mean it's only keeping your drink cool right? Wrong! Your making a fashion statement...Mine, well, I'm supporting my team! But, I am still not paying that kinda money on one. I guess I am a little cheap. You wanna make one? It's easy, I promise.

Here is the low down on how to make your very own!

Here is a list of must haves:

~Felt sheets (you can find these in your craft section)
~Fabric of choice for your outer shell
~A Feather Boa
~Ribbons, small ones...I am talking itty bitty, you don't wanna smoosh your feathers! *smiles*
~Little beads or charms to hang from the ribbons
~Velcro Strips
~Fabric spray adhesive
~Fabric glue
~Needle and Thread

My Fabric (shiny blue), Felt (leopard print) and Boa (orange)....(Gator colors were my choice choice)

1. Cut your felt ...I used a length of 10 inches long and 4 1/2 wide.
2. Cut your fabric...You will need it an inch longer on all four sides so that you can glue this together.

It will look like this before you glue it.

3. Remove your felt and spray your adhesive on the back side of the fabric
4. Now lay your felt with the print side up (if you chose a print). Fold all your corners down and make sure they are adhered well. (you may have to put a little fabric glue on your corners.

It should now look like this.

4. Your now going to want to get your feather boa and cut it about an inch shorter
(3") than your koozie.
5.Get your ribbons and start cutting however many you want and whatever lengths you want.
6. Get creative tying them all over and hanging beads or charms on them by tying knots in the end to keep the beads or charms from sliding off. (I used silver beads and little footballs)

7. This is where you will use that needle and thread. And by no means, I can not sew (well I can sew a button on something). So if I can do this, then I know you can! You will start to just sew your your boa onto the top portion of your koozie. Make sure that the needle and thread go through the little rope that the feathers are attached to the boa on.

8. You will now want to take your velcro strips (3 3/4") and use the fabric glue to glue them on...You will want to glue one on the inside of your koozie close to the edge and the other one on the outside of your koozie (on the other side) matching up with the other one. So that when you wrap it around a can, cup or bottle it will velcro together!

And what do you have when your finished?? A super cute drink koozie!

Here is the finished item...Please forgive all the pictures, I was taking them on the wrong setting and didn't realize this until after I had already made my 3rd one! But, I am sure you get the idea of how to do it.

And here is one for the Bama lovers...My lovely niece (Amanda) made one as well! She was lucky enough to find a cute elephant charm to hang from hers, and she embellished hers with a little hounds tooth ribbon!

There are endless ideas you can do with this, so take this tutorial and run with it! If you decide to make something, please share! I would love to see your ideas or team spirit!
