Did you ever grow up watching a t.v show and think later on in life, “man I wished that was still on"? Well that is me on just about all the Nickelodeon shows I grew up watching. Nineties Nick was the best that it ever was. Seriously. Well, I remember every Saturday night without fail I would turn off all the lights in my bedroom and snuggle up under the covers on my bed and watch Are You Afraid of the Dark?. It was part of a line up every Saturday night that I didn’t miss.
Are You Afraid of the Dark? was a t.v show geared towards tweens that was “scary” stories told around a camp fire. These stories weren’t necessarily scary, but they did make you look under your bed or in your closet every once in a while. I was saddened when they took it off the air.
Well about a year ago I saw a preview of a show called R.L. Stine’s The Haunting Hour The Series that was on The HUB. I made sure to DVR it so that I could check it out because by the preview I saw a glimpse to one of my favorite shows from my childhood. Well, we sat down one afternoon to watch the DVR’d episode and ohmygosh. It was great! It brought me and Zack back to our tweendom. Ever since then we won’t miss an episode when it’s on. We would sit down every Saturday {or Sunday if we had to DVR it} and watch it together as a family. The girls love it. It gives just enough spook to Kelsie, since she’s 7 and it brings that same feeling to Kayla {she’s 13} that I once had.
The episodes are just like the books that I remember reading by R.L. Stine growing up. If you’re a fan of any of the books, you’ll love this series. And if you’re a 90’s Nick kid, you’ll love this series as well! It really appeals to a broad range of ages.
We got the chance to receive R.L. Stine’s The Haunting Hour The Series: Volumes 1 and 2 on DVD, which released Tuesday, September the 4th, and sat down over the weekend and caught up on our favorite episodes! You’ve definitely got to check it out on The Hub on Saturday nights at 5 and 5:30 est.
