Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax Review

I am a lover of kids movies far and wide, but most of the time they are all just “cute”.  I hadn’t found one that I have ever watched and said “that was good”, when it was over.  However, Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax was good!  It wasn’t the normal cute kids movie.  It had an excellent story line that had powerful meaning behind it; in my opinion.

We had wanted to see this one in the theaters because, well, we really like Dr. Seuss.  However, I’ve never called a movie of his good.  The Grinch, even though a Christmas favorite, it’s just cute.  Since we didn’t get the chance to see it in theaters, I was thrilled to get the chance to review a copy before it released to purchase.  As soon as it came, Kelsie grabbed it up and watched it.  She really enjoyed it, and liked it enough to watch it again with the family last night.  We sat out at 9pm, thinking it would be one of the movies that I would doze through.  Hey, I was so sleepy, and I admit that I’ve dozed through more than plenty of our family movie nights when they’ve consisted of “cute movies”.  But after the first musical act, I was hooked.  To watch this movie and not get a feeling that we ourselves sorta live in Thneedville is an understatement. And when the remark about people not buying air from a bottle, well I laughed out loud about that because we buy water in a bottle all.the.time.  The storyline is one that we can actually relate to.
It’s one of those movies that even though there is singing throughout, you can feel good about your kids watching it over and over again because you hope that they learn an important lesson or two.  The moral of the story; “Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It's not.” – Dr. Seuss
That is such a powerful statement after watching this movie. A great quote for everybody to live by! After the movie ended I was ready to get the kids in the bed and get there myself.  Plus, I’ve never been a big fan of the extra features.  If that’s your thing, great, it’s not mine.  But it is Zack’s and he decided to click on the “Mini Movies”.  I’m glad he did, they were cute!  <---- see, they were cute!  They are definitely worth taking the few minutes to watch.  You’ll get a laugh or two or three out of them.  I think my favorite was Wagon-Ho.  If you’re a fan of the extra content this dvd will be one that puts a smile on your face.  From the mini movies, to a fun Truffula Run {game}, and if you like to sing then you’ll really enjoy the “Let it Grow” sing along.  It’s all in all a well rounded bout of extra features.  Plus the movie is GOOD!!  Not cute!
You can purchase Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax on Blu-Ray 3D Combo Pack, Blu-Ray Combo Pack, and DVD on Tuesday, August 7th.
