How to Make Homemade Corn Dogs {bites} Recipe

We all know kids love corn dogs.  But if you’ve ever looked at the back of the frozen corn dog boxes, we know that corn dogs aren’t that healthy, calories in those corn dogs are so high, not to mention the sodium.  But, if you make homemade corn dogs, you’ll know that your giving your kids the healthy corn dogs!
Oh, and don’t be afraid, corn dog batter isn’t hard to make!  I didn’t have a recipe to use I just sorta made it up as I went.  They turned out delicious and the kids loved them.
The corn dog batter recipe goes as follows…buy a yellow corn muffin mix!  Yea, it’s that easy. *smiles*

What do you need?
  • yellow corn muffin mix
  • 1 tbsp plus 1 tsp sugar
  • hot dogs of your choice {we used Hillshire Farms Cheesy Brats}
  • hot oil
What do you do?
  1. First you mix the yellow corn muffin mix according to the directions on the box.  If you use the one I did {in the picture} then you’ll use 1/2 cup water or milk.  I went with water.
  2. Next mix in the sugar.
  3. {I made bites so you can skip this part if your making actual corn dogs.}  Cut all the hot dogs into 3 equal pieces.
  4. Batter one at a time and drop it into hot oil.  The hotter the better.  You don’t want the batter to come off.
  5. Remove from oil when golden brown.
So, I know the picture of the bites aren’t all that pretty, but from my experience; sloppy looking, cheese oozing, messy, falling apart food is always the best. :-)

That is the best kind of food. If I wasn't scared to fry things I would have to try this...maybe one day I'll get over my fear.

That does sound good AND easy. But I'm with Kelli, I too have a frying fear. Not sure why. I'm a chicken, I guess. :)

That does sound pretty easy. I'm gonna write this one down!

I agree with your last statement...it doesn't have to be pretty to taste good! :o)

I also agree that good food doesn't have to look good to taste good! That's the way it usually is at my house, too! Hubby and daughter love corn dogs so I will have to try this soon!
