National Box Tops University 2011

As you know I, along with some other bloggers were invited to the National Box Tops University at the General Mills World Headquarters in Minneapolis Minnesota a couple of weeks ago.  I learned so much from that experience and I wanted to share some of those things with you.

First off, I want you all to know that box tops can be a huge way for your school to earn extra money every year. They really do send you a check to spend each year. Maybe you want to put that money towards field trips, new books for the library, band uniforms, p.e. supplies, art supplies, new musical instruments, etc. The possibilities are endless!

It takes work though!  You can’t expect to tell the kids and parents to bring/send in box tops and then get loads of money every from them doing so.  You have to offer the kids at your school incentives.  It doesn’t have to be much, lot’s of coordinators have worked with the teachers to offer extra free time outside, ice cream, sno cones, a movie and popcorn, etc. as an incentive for kids to bring in the box tops. The class with the most box tops that month gets an award.  There was also a great idea of a traveling trophy.  The class with the most box tops earns the trophy and each month it changes class.

There are tons of products available {and new ones coming!} that offer box tops on them.  You just have to look for them.  Chances are you eat something that has a box top on it.  But if you don’t, that’s ok too.  They are making box tops on other products too.  Such as Hefty, Avery and Boise.  You can also check out the list of participating brands here.  Also, something that I wasn’t aware of that y’all should all know about, if you shop online you can shop through the marketplace and shop at some of your favorite places and earn box tops for your school!  I did this just last night when I placed an order with Old Navy.

Oh, another way to earn box tops that I was unaware of, but found out while there…you can put containers at businesses around town {with the businesses permission} so that their customers can bring in their box tops.  Some people would love to help out local schools that don’t have children attending and this is an easy way for them to do so without going out of their way.

Of course while we were at the National Box Tops University we were lucky enough to get the chance to attend the Expo as well.  The Expo was where participating brands were set up with information about their products with coupons and plenty of samples to go around.  It felt a lot like trick or treating adult style!  Here are my “treats” that I came home with.

Then just a couple of days ago our goodie bag came full of more treats!

Oh and stay tuned because I’m gonna have a giveaway of all the stuff from that goodie bag featured above!!

**I was invited to attend this event and all gifts and accommodations were paid for on behalf of General Mills.

I think it's so neat that you get to do all of this stuff. How did you get involved?

I was a major box top cutter at the beginning of the school year:) But I got lazy toward the end of the year and quit sending them! I need to get a box at my house that reminds me to save them!
