I have a Secret to Share…I have a Sister

friday favorite things | finding joy

I am linking this up with Rachel at Finding Joy, because this is a favorite thing of mine this week. I am just praying that it all turns out perfectly in this un-perfect world.

This is a big shocker for those of you that don’t know me personally. I know I talk about my brother and family in Bama, all the time. However, I do have a sister and another brother, that live here locally. All three of my siblings are my half siblings. My brother in Bama was from my mothers first marriage. However, I don’t look at him as a half brother because I grew up around him and his wife and their kids.
But it’s kinda complicated when it comes to my other brother and sister. They are from my daddy’s first marriage. Of course I was never around either one of them unless they were at family gatherings at my grandmothers house or we stopped by the restaurant they worked at before we moved here.
I guess we didn’t ever really get to know each other because our daddy basically disposed of them as he has done me.
About a month ago my cousin ran into my sister while she was working. She told her about my mother passing away and basically told her that daddy no longer speaks to us. Tracy {my sister} broke down and cried. She told my cousin she’d give me a call when she got herself together. Heck, that’s a lot to process.
Well, I called her last Friday. I finally figured out she didn’t have our new number. I started leaving her a message on her machine and her husband picked up. He ask how we’ve been and about the kids. I ask him how he and Tracy have been. He said that Tracy mentioned to him a few days prior that she needed to call me but didn’t have my number. So it’s a good thing I called! We played phone tag over the weekend and finally got a chance to chat on Monday.
It’s just a lot. A lot of catching up to do. A lot of relationship building. A lot of talking. It’s a lot.
She said that she had called our brother David {she’s really close to him} and that he couldn’t wait to get together with us all. We decided to set something up after Easter. But she said she wanted to get together before then as well. She mentioned something about getting together for lunch or something. I’m thinking that since they {her and her husband} are both off work on Monday’s and Tuesdays that I’ll invite them over for dinner next Monday or Tuesday night.
We both agreed that we want to be close and build a relationship. Heck, they are the only family besides my cousin and her family and my aunt and uncle that live here locally.
This is something that we need. I think it would be good for the both of us. I would love to be close to her. I think that now that daddy is out of my life this will open up the door for us to have a relationship.
I can’t wait to get together with her soon!
