Here’s to a Better Year/Me

Ok, so I am going to get healthy.  That is all there is to it.  Working out, drinking water, eating right, those are the things that I must do this year to accomplish that goal.
Sounds easy right?  Sure, if you like eating vegetables and you don’t mind working out.  I have just now in the past year or so started to enjoy vegetables but hardly enough to want to consume them regularly.  I still like my sides to look buttery, cheesy or golden brown.
And working out? Forgetaboutit!  Seriously.  I do not like working out to dvd’s.  They get boring.  I will not go to the gym.  I am one of those that think that I should get fit before heading to a gym out of sheer embarrassment. And running/walking around the block, nope not me.  Don’t want people staring and pointing.
So that is where my Christmas gift comes in.  I was so wishy washy this year about what I wanted.  I wanted a new set of cookware, starting slowly piece by piece because Le Cruset is expensive stuff.  Then I thought about it and decided I wanted a Nook.  But then I thought about it again and decided that I didn’t want anything because we are going to Disney in March.  Then last minute I told Zack I wanted an elliptical machine.  I sent him the link to the one I wanted from Walmart and he went a few days before Christmas and got it.  It sat unwrapped, exposed box until the day after Christmas, which is when he put it together for me.  I didn’t really “use” it until Monday of this week.  Sure I tried it out a little that night just to kinda see about it, I didn’t make it no time until I was sweating and my thighs were killing me.  Oh and that was just on resistance one!
This past Monday I sat on my goal to get healthy and started working out.  I decided that I would just do this week 20 minutes a day on the elliptical with resistance one while watching my favorite shows.  I weighed myself Monday morning and was ashamed.  Wow, I really put on some weight over the holidays!  Yikes!  I worked out my 20 mins while watching Dr. Oz and burned about 121 calories.  Hmm..Not too bad but I knew that I could do better.  So on Tuesday I decided that I would go with the first preprogrammed workout that is 30 minutes long.  It varies in resistances and changes things up every few minutes to give you a workout!  And I’ll say it does!  On Tuesday I burned 323 calories in my 30 minutes and on Wednesday 363 in 30 minutes!  Woot Woot!
I have been drinking water and I went to Raw Sugar for my coffee.  Because natural is better.  I have been eating breakfast, which is something that I don’t do and I’ve been having snacks of apple slices and peanut butter or sharp cheddar cheese and Wheat Thins.  I am off on the right foot!
I am going to be logging my calories burned and what not every week and any weight loss that I may or may not have.  This will help hold me accountable of my goal and hopefully help me stick with it!
Anybody else getting healthy this year?

It sounds like you are off to a good start! I am trying to do the same thing...exercise more and be healthy. So far not too bad, but the rain yesterday kept me from walking and I may have sampled more than one of the cookies I baked for a friend yesterday:)
