When the Chitlins are Sicklins

Chitlins, to clarify is what I call my kids and when they’re sick I call them sicklins.

Kelsie has had cold like symptoms now for about 2 weeks.  We have been giving her Mucinex and Robitussin.  They worked to some degree but not as well as I’d like them to.  Makes you sorta think, what’s the point in even giving meds when it doesn’t always work the way it’s supposed too.  Anyways.

Sunday night around 9 she started running fever, which according to her history, throwing up always follows.  She has thrown up more than Kayla ever has her whole life.  I guess some kids are pukers {I really hate the word puke!} and others aren’t.  Well several hours after she went to bed, sure enough she woke up throwing up.  Luckily, I had already planned ahead and had put her hair up in a braid to stay out of the way.  She got a bath and I washed sheets and blankets and then laid down with her until she fell back to sleep.  The whole waking up and laying down with her again followed by throwing up happened several more times before day light broke.  Ugh!  I really felt it yesterday. Can’t stay up like I used too, that’s for sure.

She was able to eat chicken broth twice yesterday and keep it down as well as half a peanut butter sandwich.  I made her some lemonade and Zack bought her some Gatorade, she was able to keep that down as well.  Thankfully!

I took her to the dr yesterday afternoon and it was confirmed that she had a sinus infection.  He gave her a slew of rx’s from antibiotics to a refill for her inhaler.  Not to mention Zantac, because she has been complaining of her stomach hurting for a couple of months now.

She had stopped running fever and actually acted like she was better yesterday afternoon, plus the dr had given her the OK to go back to school.  However this morning at 4:30 things went from great to sick again.  She woke up yelling for me and throwing up.  Washed sheets and blankets again, got her some more Gatorade and a cold wet rag for her neck and she was back asleep before I could close her door good.  Then about an hour later she was awake again throwing up.  Same thing, got her cold rag all set and she was back asleep.  She’s been asleep now for about an hour and I hope that she sleeps a bit longer.  Sleep is one of the best remedy’s when your sick.

I’m hoping that this will be the final bout of it and she’ll be on the road to recovery.  I hate when my chitlins are sicklins.

Yuck! I hate when my kiddos get sick...and throwing up is the worst! I hate all the laundry that comes with stomach bugs! My middle one has been running a fever for the past 2 days, but luckily not puke yet!
