Ahh, the high school years.  As we are quickly approaching August 20th, our back to school date, we are finishing up last minute shopping.  Who am I kidding?  This momma hasn’t even begun to shop for school supplies or clothes.  Yep, I’m behind.  But thanks to Casio, I'm at least one step ahead of where I would have been.
Kayla starts 9th grade this year, the big freshman!  As excited as we are about this new journey, we know that school supplies are fixing to get crazy!  I remember going into 9th grade and needing a graphing calculator.  At the time I had no idea that a calculator could do something such as graphing, fractions, yada, yada.  As soon as I figured out that I could use a calculator to help me with fractions, I was thrilled.  Math was never my strong subject so anything to help me along the way made me smile. 
Knowing that Kayla was going to need a very similar graphing calculator, I wasn’t sure which brand to turn too.  But things always seem to work out and we received not one but two Casio calculators to try out.  Both of which are perfect for your kids, 6th grade thru at least high school. {I would say college, but we aren’t there yet, thank goodness!  And I have no idea what they need.}

We received the Pink fx-9860GII and let me tell you, this far surpasses the days of the graphing calculator that I had in school.  Let’s face it, pink was not even an option!  And it surely wasn’t back lit, and the features are amazing!  It’s like a mini computer with it’s 1.5MB flash memory and 64KB RAM. Along with the high resolution LCD screen and 21 character, 8 line display, you have plenty of room to calculate and graph and see clearly what your working on.
And you won’t have to worry about keeping up with the teacher as y’all are all working on something in class together.  With the high performance internal CPU, this calculator is five times faster than standard graphing calculators.  Kayla has been using the CD-ROM that it comes with to learn all that ins and outs.  She assures me that it’s quiet easy to learn.  If I remember correctly the book that used to come with the old graphing calculators never helped me learn how to even work it beyond simple graphing.
This calculator has everything that you need except for color, since the display screen is in black and white.  However, if your looking for a color option I suggest the other calculator that we received to test out, the Casio Prizm Calculator Color.
The Casio PRIZM FX-CG10 Color Graphing Calculator is awesome!  We received one that was autographed by none other than the math wizard from The Wonder Years, Danica McKellar!  Yes, she is a math wizard, an inspiration to all young girls, and that is awesome.  {I was a huge fan of hers when she was on The Wonder Years}
The Casio PRIZM has a full color LCD screen with over 65,000 colors.  It packs 16MB memory and it also allows data communication with a PC.  If you need a calculator to do it all, I think this is the one your looking for.  Looking at the screen is like looking at your math book, it’s crisp, clear, and has some bold colors.  Even though it seems very overwhelming while you may be used to the old school graphing calculators it’s not hard to use. You can even connect it to your PC to transfer any work you’ve done or print out any work that you may need hard copies of.  And with 16MB of memory you can store numerous formulas and notes. 

Both of these calculators would make awesome back to school ideas when a graphing calculator is on the supply list.
