We will Only be Eating Out on Special Occasions

Kayla was gone for the night last night spending the night with her cousin and I didn’t cook dinner so I started scrambling online searching for a place to eat dinner.

After much searching and Googling of the nutrition values, I decided against eating out.  Why?  Because everything was so high in calories that a single entree could have been an entire days worth of calories or the calorie limits on items were much too high {450 or more}.  Even in items such as salads!

As I look around I see so many overweight Americans and I wonder how many eat out daily.  I’m not talking Burger King or McDonalds.  I’m referring to sit down restaurants and buffets.  You may choose to get a salad but when you add the dressing you tend to add more than you would at home.  What about rice and beans, yea, for some reason the calories and sodium are through the roof. Chicken, unless it’s boneless and skinless breasts without a heavy sauce and it’s been grilled, it’s filled with calories!  It’s actually scary.

It’s scary because many Americans lead such busy lifestyles and don’t have the time to cook dinner, so they eat out not out of wants but out of needs.  These are the Americans that are putting their health in somebody else’s hands and it’s not safe.

Why is it I can make the same meal at home for far less calories?  I don’t understand it.  Why can’t they just fix it like I would?

I’m not saying don’t eat out, because to some that’s impossible, however I would be careful, and always be aware of the nutritional value of everything on the menu.  Even the kids meals are swamped with unhealthy calories.  I actually don’t blame California for banning the toys in kids meals!

It is scary and you're right, most people don't realize how many calories there are in EVERYTHING when eating out. We are really trying to do better about it.

I don't even know how people can afford to eat out a lot! It's soooo expensive compared with cooking your own food!

When we do eat out (because dance class is so late or something like that) we try subway. You can actually build a very low-calorie low-fat sandwich.

But we try to eat out as little as possible.
