Food Item Sweepstakes, Do you Think they’re Real?

The other night Zack brought me a dark chocolate Reese Cup from the gas station.  On the front there was some ad about wining cash and or prizes, look inside the wrapper, blah, blah.  You know what I’m referring too.

I have bought candy bars, bubble gum, boxes of juice pouches, yogurt, cookies, chips, cereal, 16oz sodas and well you get the idea.  Many of these items have mentioned some sort of prize or cash win at some point during it’s life on the shelf.  However, I have never won anything from any of them.  Maybe a free 16oz from a bottle cap at one time, but I can’t be too sure.

I looked inside the wrapper that night on the Reese Cup and it said “Sorry"…”, as they all have said to me before.  And it really got me thinking.

I ask Zack if he ever won anything from something mentioned above and he said no.  He mentioned the “Mickey Mouse” on the Mars candy bars years and years ago, that he was always missing two of the 11 letters.  Hmmm.  Makes me wonder.  Did those two letters ever even exist to begin with or was it some marketing ploy to boost sales?

I told Zack my theory of how companies may create these “fake” sweepstakes to get their fellow Americans to purchase said item in hopes for a chance to win something.  After all we all like a good gamble every now and then.  He agreed.

Have you ever won anything from any of those items above or any other food item?  Beside McDonalds Monopoly.  I win food all the time from that when it’s running and we have all seen the winners of the big prizes on their commercials, unless those are just paid actors and actresses…Hmmm.

You know the old saying, you can’t get something for free.  I think that may hold some truth in the food item sweepstakes too.  Unless that is of course you or someone you know have won.

Do tell, I think we might all be interested in knowing.  What are your thoughts?

I've never won any big prizes either. A free pop here and there, and like you said the McDonald's free food on Monopoly.

I remember watching a documentary type show a few years ago on TLC or a similar channel. It had a lady on there who only bought items in the grocery store that had sweepstake offers on them. She had won all kinds of trips, money, and junk.

I think, even with the MD monopoly too, that there's like ONE wrapper or game piece with the winner out of like millions of wrappers AND that they probably sent that wrapper to the smallest, little know, doesn't get much business place ever so no one wins.

I have not won anything personally, but my neighbor won a red ford convertible mustang from the coke sweepstakes a few years back.

I have always wondered the same thing. It wouldn't surprise me one bit if they did it.

I've never won anything. Nor do I know anyone who has won anything. And I bet most potential prizes go unclaimed. But I do think that the rare person does win something sometimes.
