Now I know What My Parents Were Talking About

When I was growing up the radio station in the car was always on the Oldies station.  Or at least when daddy was in the car.  Mother would listen to my music just to make me happy. :-)  I remember long 5 hour drives to Panama City to visit my grandmother listening to Oldies.  I would complain over and over again how terrible the music sounded and how I couldn’t wait to be old enough to have my own car so I could listen to what I wanted.

They couldn’t stand the way my music sounded and I couldn’t stand the way their music sounded.

I was thrilled when I got my disc man so that I could listen to what I wanted too while in the car and then when I got my cd boom box for my room, I rocked out all the time to my music.  I loved it!

Now that I’m grown and have my own car, I do listen to what I want too.  Lucky for the girls, I listen to today’s music.  There isn’t a “90’s” station unless you have satellite radio {which we don’t have} otherwise I’d be listening to it.  ;-)

However, there is a 90’s station on our digital cable and I turn it on fairly often.  Kayla knows a few of the artists and songs because I have either added them to her Ipod or she has a few of my old cd’s.  She knows who No Doubt is and has their cd.  Britney Spears is somebody else’s music she knows.  The good stuff before she lost her mind.  She also likes The Backstreet Boys, Brandy and a few others.

Last night I was I thinking of some other songs that I used to listen to all the time, I You Tubed a few of those. Soul For Real’s, Candy Rain, I told Kayla I had their tape.  She laughed.  Ha!  Another one that I pulled up was Immature.  I used to listen to Never Lie ALL the time!  She made fun of “eye patch guy”.  I’m not sure if this was just for his look or if he actually needed it. But back then, I honestly didn’t think anything of it.   Then there was one that she laughed at the lyrics.  She said “this makes no sense at all”.  Alanis Morissette, One Hand in My Pocket.

I can recall quiet a few times as well with us being in the car and as I would flip through the stations I ran across Tupac.  Zack loves Tupac.  And I used to listen to him as well.  Who didn’t that grew up in the 90’s?  Anyways.  I forgot what song it was but Zack and I both commented at the same time that “this is real rap”.  Kayla was like no this is not.  But then again what junk does she have to compare it too?  I mean listen to some of the “rap” now.  It’s all the same rapping about girls and sex and it sounds more like somebody is honestly talking with some music in the back ground.  I seriously doubt that any of them could “rap” like Bone Thugs and Harmony!  I’d like to see them keep up with what’s his face??  Busy bone?  {I have no idea how he spells it}

But this whole thing got me thinking…I am going to create a cd.  A 90’s cd with all my favorite music that I used to “jam” out too.  I am working on my list right now.

Janet Jackson, Immature, Soul For Real, Alanis Morissette, Presidents of the United States of America and lot’s more!

Great idea! I love some 90's music. Funny that kids now think what we used to like is outdated. Don't forget...Ace of Base, Mariah, Smashing Pumpkins, TLC, Salt N Peppa...oh my the list could go on and on and on :)

You are taking me back!!! I do understand my mom always listening to "her" music. I'm not a fan of music now and Jamison is just on the edge of really getting into it. I love Alanis!

Yep...besides the major classic rock songs from the 70's and 80's, I have some great memories from the 90's as well. Mostly the most popular songs that y'all used to like. I guess every generation has the "great songs". Funny how we associate good times with great song memories. Go for it! The young one's will grow up loving them and making their own memories.
